sigourney-keota-2

The Sigourney Savages swept a pair of duels on the diamond with Colfax-Mingo Friday night. Sigourney softball broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the home half of the fourth inning and never gave the lead back in a 7-3 win.

Dani Aller led the Savage lineup with three hits, including a double, and two runs scored, while fellow senior Josephine Moore also hit a double as part of two total knocks and collected a pair of runs batted in.

Freshman Ella Bruns stroked a double as well for Sigourney and joined sophomore Kia Montgomery and freshman Izzy Green in having one hit and one run scored each. Green and Bruns added one RBI each.

Moore got the complete-game pitching victory by piling up 10 strikeouts and working around two hits and eight walks allowed as the Savages, ranked 14th in the state in Class 1A, improve to 6-1 overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Sigourney baseball wasted no time grabbing a lead, scoring four runs in the first against Colfax-Mingo and scoring six times in each of the next two frames to end the game early with a 16-0 victory.

Seniors Cole McKay and Brady Clark each hit doubles at the top of the order and combined to score five runs for the Savages, while sophomore Lincoln Power and freshman Hunter Sellers joined McKay in collecting two runs driven in each.

Power, senior Isaac Bruns and sophomore Chase Clarahan each scored twice, while sophomore Ike Molyneux added one run and one RBI on a double. Sellers dominated on the mound, allowing no hits and two walks and striking out 10 in four innings pitched as the fourth-ranked Savages remain undefeated at 8-0.

The Keota Eagles would also be victorious on the softball diamond Friday night against a conference rival in Iowa Valley. One run each in the second and fourth innings put Keota in front on the road.

While the Tigers scored three runs in the fifth to cut the lead down to one run, a five-run outburst in the seventh secured a 9-3 win for the Eagles, who improve to 2-2.

Keota baseball would not have the same good fortune, losing 12-2 in five innings after Iowa Valley built an 8-1 lead in the first three frames. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-4 in conference play and 2-4 overall.
