The No. 4 Sigourney Savage baseball team will be looking to continue an unbeaten season when they travel east to take on rival Keota in the Area Game of the Week.

Keota is 2-3 overall after a loss last week to No. 8 Lynnville-Sully 10-1. Blake Baker went 2/3 at the plate, Jackson Vittetoe knocked in their lone run and Baker took the loss on the bump in four-and-a-third innings pitched. This season, the Eagles are batting .306, with a .414 OBP and .396 slug. They have posted 38 runs on 44 hits with 33 batted in. Senior Ashton Galindo’s two doubles top the charts in Class 1A. On the hill, Keota has surrendered 34 runs on 20 hits, 23 earned and 28 walks to 26 strikeouts. The Eagles own a 4.88 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and opponents bat .126 against them.

Sigourney, ranked No. 4 in the latest poll by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association, moved to 8-0 overall last week with a dominant 16-0 win over Colfax-Mingo. Freshman Hunter Sellers earned his first win of the season on the mound, allowing just two walks while striking out 10 and delivering two RBI at the dish. This season, the Savages have scored 116 runs on 71 hits, including 87 RBI and nine home runs, fourth most in the state. Sigourney hits .357 as a team with an OBP of .541 and a .603 slug. As a staff, the Savages have allowed a mere 19 runs on 29 hits, nine earned, 22 walks to 56 punchouts, a .181 opponent average, 1.47 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Chase and Caden Clarahan, Landon Conrad and Sellers have all worked at least five innings on the bump and all own ERAs of less than 1.5 and WHIPs of 1.05 or less.

In the Varsity Bound era, Sigourney leads the all-time series with Keota 23-11 dating back to 2008 and have won the last six, including the most recent matchup 12-3 last June.
