The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team hung on for a 6-5 win at Class 4A Burlington Friday night. The Hawks were hot early with two runs in the first and a four-spot in the second to lead 6-0. The Grayhounds responded with two each in the second and third and a single run in the fourth to climb within one. From there, Mid-Prairie’s pitching and defense, led by Kadence Grout in the circle, got the job done. Grout went all seven with three earned runs, seven hits, a walk and a strikeout. Offensively, the Golden Hawks were out hit 8-6. Sophie Miller had two knocks, including a homer and three RBI with a run scored. Kyla Karnes had a hit and drove in two. Grout also scored twice. The win moved Mid-Prairie to 4-1 on the year as Burlington dropped to 3-5.
