It’s a road trip Monday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball and baseball teams when they meet the West Branch Bears. The Golden Hawk girls are 1-1 on the season after splitting a pair of slugfests last week, a 17-16 loss to Keokuk and a 12-11 Friday win at Mount Pleasant. This season, the Hawks are hitting .400 collectively with a .483OBP, and .507slug, with 28 runs scored on 30 hits, 24RBI, 12 walks and 11 strikeouts. Individually, Four Hawks are at .500 or better, led by Sophie Miller and Kyla Karnes each at .600 with a combined six runs on six hits, four RBI and three walks. In the circle, the Mid-Prairie staff ERA is 11.27 with a 3.15WHIP, .375 opponent average, 24 hits, 22 earned runs, 19 walks and 16 strikeouts. Kadence Grout is the individual leader with a 1-0 record and 3.00ERA.

West Branch is 1-2 this year after a sweep at the hands of Durant and a win over Central City. The Bears are hitting .260 as a team with a .289OBP, and .315 slug, scoring nine runs with 19 hits, six RBI, three walks and 26 strikeouts. Individually, Lander Malloy is hitting .714 with five hits. Karly Shelton has two RBI. In the circle the staff ERA is 4.12 with a .206 opponent average on 21 hits, 11 earned runs, 20 walks and eight strikeouts. Emalyn Poe leads with a 1.91ERA. These two teams have split their last 14 meetings, with the Bears sweeping the Hawks last year, 10-7 and 7-6.

The Golden Hawk baseball team is 5-1 this season and 2-1 in the River Valley Conference, after a 7-6 win over rival Williamsburg in Wellman Friday. The Hawks are ranked No. 13 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie is hitting .285 as a team with a .416OBP and .384 slug, scoring 37 runs on 43 hits with 29RBI, 29 walks and 36 strikeouts. Individually, five Golden Hawks are at .300 or better at the plate, led by Brooks Weber’s .412 and seven RBI, Jason Heitman has eight hits and Conner Wiles and Gentry Bontrager have each scored six times. On the mound, Mid-Prairie’s team ERA is 1.88 with a 1.07WHIP, allowing a .162 opponent average on 24 hits, 11 earned runs, 20 walks and 59 strikeouts. Brady Weber’s 0.88ERA leads the team. He, Brooks Weber and Tatem Telfer are a combined 5-0.

West Branch is 1-6 this season after dropping a 7-4 decision to Calamus-Wheatland Friday. The Bears are hitting .217 as a team with a .326OBP and .277 slug, scoring 22 runs on 36 hits with 16RBI, 24 walks and 71 strikeouts. Individually, Garrett Sotzen is at .409 with nine hits and five driven in. The West Branch staff has a 4.46ERA and 1.96WHIP on a .195 opponent average with 43 hits, 27 earned runs, 40 walks and 39 strikeouts. Sotzen has the lone win and a 2.90ERA. The Golden Hawks have won 30 of the last 41 in this series, including five in a row and a three game sweep last season.
