The Lone Tree Lions rolled to victories over Pekin last night in both baseball and softball. That included the first win of the season for softball, defeating Pekin 11-1.
While Lone Tree got on the board right away with two runs in the first inning to take the lead, scoring four times in the second and five times in the third would give them control of a game that they would end after five frames.
It would take until the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie for Lion baseball, but a run in each of the next two frames would be enough to push past the Panthers by a final of 2-0.
Lone Tree was coming off an 8-7 victory over Belle Plaine on Wednesday night. Six runs in the third put the Lions ahead for good, but they would have weather a final-inning rally from the Plainsmen when they scored seven times in the seventh.
At 2-1, Lone Tree will try to finish off the week with another victory in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tonight when both Lion squads return to the diamond to face Wapello.
