The Columbus Wildcats earned their first softball victory of the summer last night by defeating conference rival Wapello 6-2. A four-run outburst in the third inning put Columbus in front, and they would not allow Wapello to crack the scoreboard until the sixth.
It was a solid response to the Wildcats dropping their season opener Monday night against Mediapolis. Only trailing 1-0 for most of the night, four runs in the fifth innings gave the Bulldogs control of a game they would win by a final score of 7-2.
Off to a 1-1 start to the season, Columbus will try to move to 2-0 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference when they next play tomorrow night against WACO.
You can hear the Wildcats host the Warriors in the KCII Area Game of the Week tomorrow evening, starting with pregame coverage at 6:30 on the KCII3 app and the KCII3 stream at KCIIradio.com
