The Washington Demons had another strong showing at the Class 3A track and field state championships this past week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. That included another excellent week for junior Josh Anderson, who won four state medals.

Anderson finished third in the boys’ 200-meter wheelchair race with a time of 35.6 seconds and was fourth in the wheelchair 100 in 19.68 seconds. Anderson also ended up fourth in the wheelchair 400 meters in one minute 7.53 seconds and was also fourth in the wheelchair 800 in just under 2:23.

Sophomore Greyson Hartman would also end up on the top half of the medal stand for Washington in both throwing events, taking third place in the discus with a throw of 169 feet eight inches and earning fourth in the shot put with a top toss of 55 feet four-and-three-quarter inches.

Tyler Alderton would finish his career for the Demons by finishing eighth in the open 800, clocking in at 1:57, and he would run with fellow senior Logan McDole and juniors Sawyer Tschantz and Carson Ryan to help Washington take eighth in the 4-by-800-meter relay by posting a time of 8:03.

Junior Leighton Messinger would win the lone state medal for the Demon girls by taking sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles run and crossing the finish line in 1:06.
