Local girls golfers from Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Sigourney and Keota opened the postseason Friday with a Class 1A first round regional at the Sigourney Golf Club. The Huskies left no doubt about who the top team was on the day, winning the title with a combined score of 346, 32 strokes better than second place BGM. It was another 1-2 punch for the Huskies at the top of the leaderboard with Emersyn Schultz and Adeline Krotz each firing 81s to earn medalist and medalist runner-up honors respectively. Other cards for Highland included Joslyn Prottsman sixth with a 91, Adisyn Prottsman eighth with 93, and Cassidy Duster 96. The Huskies are now 41-1 this season.

Hillcrest Academy did not post a team score, but saw Claire Withrow shoot her best round of the season at 90 to finish fifth and advance to the regional finals as an individual. Ava Miller shot 113 for the Ravens and Izzy Frederick 144.

It was heartbreak on their home course for the Sigourney Savages, who finished with a 378 team score, tied for second with BGM, but lost out on qualifying for the next round on a tiebreaker. The Savages also missed out on qualifying any individuals for the regional finals by one shot, as Ella Bruns led in seventh with a 92, Ella Fineran was eighth at 93, Kayla Renner 95, Hannah Hanselman 98 and Reagan Clarahan 111.

Keota’s 437 overall score placed them fifth as a team. The Eagles top round came from Lainey Swanson in 11th with a 95. She was followed by Brynn Conrad at 105, Kaylee Kindred 116 and Emily Conger 121.

The Huskies and Hillcrest’s Withrow play Wednesday for bids to the 2025 State tournament at Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon.
