The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team takes the first steps on the tournament trail today when they travel to Prairie City Monroe for a Class 2A sectional tournament.
The Hawks have a 42-16 overall record after closing the regular season with a 161-165 dual win at Keota last week. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 20 in the latest Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. All six members of the varsity lineup appear in the individual poll including: No. 92 Denver Nelson, No. 98 Bryce Henry, No. 108 Grayson Gingerich, No. 114 Clayton Davidson, No. 133 Hudson Ehrenfelt and No. 135 Ace Peck. As a team, Mid-Prairie carries a 166 average on nine and 331 average on 18, with Nelson, Peck, Ehrenfelt and Davidson all at a 42 average individually for nine and Henry’s 81 leading the way on 18.
Mid-Prairie will be joined today by Durant, North Mahaska, No. 3 Pella Christian, No. 21 Iowa City Regina, No. 11 West Branch, Wilton, and the home No. 5 Mustangs. There are 30 ranked golfers in today’s field. Action starts at 10a.m. And continues all day at Gateway Recreation in Monroe.
