Temperatures will see highs in the upper-80s and may reach 90 degrees in eastern Iowa this week according to the National Weather Service. With the return of high temperatures, people are reminded to be aware of heat safety measures. Ready Iowa advises people should be drinking plenty of water regularly, limit intake of alcoholic beverages, stay in cool rooms if possible, and when outside avoid too much sunshine. If you are outdoors, wear sunscreen and hats, and light, loose-fitting clothes.

Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle. Even with the windows down, the temperatures in a vehicle rise quickly. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, 39 children died of heatstroke in vehicles last year, an increase of 35% from the year before. Remember when you park your car, to check the backseat for your children. When it is 80 degrees outside, the internal temperature of a car can climb to 106 degrees in just 15 minutes, or in 90 degree weather in 15 minutes it can reach 116 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition, this week there are chances for showers and storms in the region. Listen to KCII Radio for weather updates.
