The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team came up just short in Wednesday’s bid to three-peat with team titles at the River Valley Conference Championship meet in Muscatine. The Hawks shot a 389 team score to finish second to Tipton and their 376. Top Golden Hawk on the day was Morgyn Bender in fourth overall with a 93. Addison English and Olivia Swartzentruber made the top 10, finishing seventh and eighth with matching 97s. Lilly Miller shot 102, Delani Blum 117 and Paiton Chittick 126. Bender, English and Swartzentruber were named first-team All-River Valley. Miller was honorable mention RVC. The All-Conference quartet spoke with KCII Sports after the meet about their days.
Swartzentruber said, “As a team, we came up a few short for number one but I think we should be proud of ourselves. My best hole of the day was probably the first hole of the day. I had a pretty good drive, chipped it to the fringe, almost holed out from the fringe, but I got a one putt so it was a par.”
English added, “I was also confident along with the rest of the team with how we had been playing lately, in either getting first or second today as a team. We achieved that. I didn’t really have a hole that stood out to me today, but, my back nine did. I pared a lot of holes.”
Bender continued, “Hole 16 was a par five. My drive was one of the better ones I had on the day. Then I hit my hybrid really well. Good third shot on and then made my putt for birdie, so I was really proud of that. I was proud of how we finished today.”
Miller said, “I felt pretty confident in my game coming into the day. I wasn’t too nervous. I would say that my short game recently has been pretty good. The hole that I started on, I pared it. I was on it two and two putted. That really set a good standard for the day. I was proud of how we did as a team today.”
The Golden Hawks are now 38-5 this season and host Durant on Monday in an RVC dual.
