The Siogurney Savages and Keota Eagles were near the top of the leaderboard on Monday at Oskaloosa Public Golf during this year’s South Iowa Cedar League Boys’ Tournament. Sigourney finished second as a team with a combined score of 336 strokes, just one behind the winners from HLV and five ahead of third-place Keota.

The Savages came extremely close to the team victory thanks in part to junior Solon Yates, who led the team by shooting a nine-over-par 81 and finishing fourth overall.

Freshman Jordan Tremmel was fifth on the individual leaderboard with an 84, while sophomore Ike Molyneux and seniors Isaac Bruns and Cain Weber each fired an 85 for Sigourney and junior Josh Wyatt added a 96.

Brennan McGuire led Keota with a five-over 77 and was second overall, just two strokes back of tournament champion Peyton Roth of HLV. Fellow sophomore Porter Cave was only two strokes back of him in third, while Eagles senior Billie Kindred joined the big tie-up in sixth place with an 85.

Keota also had recent competition in girls’ golf. The Eagles took part in the Girls’ Tiger Tourney hosted by Iowa Valley at Marengo Golf Club on Friday, with senior Lainey Swanson earning tournament champion honors by shooting a 97 to lead Keota.
