
Highland High School hosted some of the best athletes in southeast Iowa track and field Monday for their Senior Night Relays.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls swept the team titles, with the boys piling up 184 points, to best second place Keokuk’s 107 and the girls going for 136, to get by Tipton’s 115. The Hawks had 21 total event championships. Boys winners included Jayden Stafford in the wheelchair 100, 200, 400 and 800s in 18.29 seconds, 33.33 seconds, 1:04.89 and 2:17.19 respectively. Mid-Prairie went 1-2-3 in discus with Kaden Kos on a winning throw of 153’11”, Burke Berry second and Tommy Miller third. It was 1-2 in the shot put with Berry the winner at 55′ and Miller second. Jayse Yoder was the 200 and 400 champion in 23.50 seconds and 50.88 seconds respectively. Thomas Lueck won long jump at 20’3.75”. Josh Turner cleared six feet to win high jump. Evan Reschly took the two-mile in 13:40.58. Ryan Henry broke the tape in 11.30 seconds to win the 100. Thomas Flynn flew to a mile title in 4:48.94. Relay wins for the Hawks came from the 4×800 of Flynn, Max Swartzentruber, Max Kipp and Lennox Miller in 9:07.46, and the shuttle with Cash Brown, Kendrick Kos, Lueck and Carson Humphrey in 1:03.72. Second place finishes included Humphrey in the 110 hurdles, the 4×100 of Kaden Kos, Henry, Nolan Jergens and Kendrick Kos and the boys distance medley of Kaden Kos, Jergens, Kendrick Kos and Preston Yutzy, Third place performances were Brown in long jump, Kipp in the 400 hurdles, and the sprint medley with Kaden Kos, Keegan Bauwens, Brown and Jergens.
Golden Hawk girls winning events included a 1-2 finish in discus with Dessa Poll the winner at 115’4” and Harper Pacha second. It was also a 1-2 punch in the 200 with Jeorgia Evans the winner at 25.74 seconds and Jovi Evans second, Pacha won shot put at 35’11.50”. Jovi Evans took the 100 in 12.84 seconds. Rachel Hostetler won the 1500 in 4:54.64. The 4×100 with Jeorgia Evans, Kyrie Poll, Myli Hershberger and Jovi Evans took the title in 51.01. The shuttle hurdle team of Sophie Miller, Claire Trimpe, Olivia Schlabach and Ruby Miller were runners-up. In third were Ivy Reschley in the 3000, Brooklyn Stutzman in the 1500, the sprint medley of Hershberger, Sophie Miller, Kyrie Poll and Averi Janecek, the 4×200 with Hershberger, Sophie Miller, Hannah Rodgers and Ruby Miller, and the 4×4 with Ruby Miller, Rebekah Wallington, Rodgers and Tessa Brokaw.
The WACO girls and boys were both fifth as teams with 65 and 41 points respectively. The Warrior girls got a win from the distance medley of Natalie Wagler, Taelyn Egli, Josie Dykstra and Trinity Dean in 4:50.08. Other top performances included second for Bren Graber in high jump and 400m hurdles. Third place went to Madelyn Farmer in long jump, the shuttle hurdle team of Ally Rinner, Farmer, Bren and Brenna Graber, and Josie Dykstra in the 400 hurdles. The Warrior boys were led by second place performances for Isaac Rich in the 100, the sprint medley of Hayden Shelman, Rich, Gage Samo and Louden Huisenga, and the shuttle hurdle with Huisenga, Samo, Bryson Waterhouse and Layke Millspaugh. Garrett Landau was third for the Warriors in the mile.
The Highland girls and boys were both sixth in the team chase with the girls scoring 57 points and the boys 36. Top girls finishes included second place for Grace Bombei in the 3000, Kamryn Fink in the 100, Mayia Singbeil in the 100 hurdles, and the sprint medley of Ava Sexton, Alexa Hahn, Lilly Barre and Fink. In third were, Singbeil in high jump, and the 4×100 team of Singbeil, Fink, Barre and Hahn. For the Highland boys, second place belonged to Tristan Kleopfer in the 3200 and the 4×200 team of Liam Roberts, William Dunbar, Bryce Hazelett and Cayden Day. The Huskies were third with Dunbar in the 100 and Day in the 200. It was also Senior Night for the Huskies who honored Cayden Day, William Dunbar, Brixton Rust, Lilly Barre and Hailey Netser.
