
The Washington Demons made it six team victories in as many Southeast Conference boys’ golf events this season when they hosted the rest of the league yesterday at Washington Golf & Country Club. Washington finished with a combined score of 161 strokes, eight less than second-place Fairfield.
For the third time this season, Drew Conrad shot the medalist round at a conference meet to lead the Demons with an even-par 35, collecting birdies on the third and eighth holes to match his two bogeys.
Fellow Washington junior Carson Brown was second overall with a 38, birdieing the ninth to go with four bogeys. Cole Vetter finished sixth with a 43 for the Demons, with fellow senior Conner Leyden only one spot and two strokes behind him.
Sophomores Kaleb Orr and Ethan Peebler added rounds of 46 and 48, respectively, as Washington won its 18th consecutive conference event going back to 2023.
The Demon girls would have their best finish of the season in a Southeast Conference meet yesterday at Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington, taking third as a team with a score of 211.
Senior Lauren Hinrichsen led Washington and was tied for fifth overall with a 13-over 49, while sophomore teammate Lucy Sands was only one stroke behind her in a tie for eighth.
Freshman Elizabeth Hora also carded a 53 for the Demons and sophomore Sydney Stouder added a 59. Both Washington golf teams are playing again today in 18-hole tournaments, with the boys in Oskaloosa and the girls at Solon.
