The stars of track and field in southeast Iowa shined on the big stage this weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines at the 115th annual Drake Relays.

Action was headlined by Washington Demon sophomore thrower Greyson Hartman who went runner-up in the shot put, throwing 17.96m. Landon Prince of Clear Creek Amana won the event going 18.87m. Hartman doubled up to place 19th in discus at 143’2”. Event winner was also Prince from CCA at 185′. Washington’s Josh Anderson finished fourth in the wheelchair 400 with a time of 1:09.95. The Demon 4×100 team of Keider Gomez-Valdez, Kael Williams, Jayfred Espinosa and Nate Edmonds were 63rd at 44.39 seconds. Johnston was the winner at 41.84 seconds.

The Demon girls 4×100 team of Leighton Messinger, Leighton Salazaar, Jaedyn Moore and Layla Green also qualified for Drake.

The Columbus boys had a pair run the 110 hurdles with Alex Rees 19th in 14.83 seconds and Lamar Ceant 30th at 18.68 seconds. Brady Wallace of Treynor was the winner in 13.80 seconds. The Wildcat 4×100 team of Ceant, Rees, Riley Kaalberg and Juan Chairez got the call and finished 42nd at 43.84 seconds.

It was the 4×100 relays in action for both the Lone Tree and Highland girls. The Lady Lion team of Addison McCullough, Ava Christofferson, Vivian Zaruba and Rylee Shield were 79th in 51.73 seconds with Highland’s team of Lilly Barre, Kamryn Fink, Alexa Hahn and Hailey Brun qualifying.

Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newsom was 10th in the 800 with a time of 1:55.79 behind winner Quentin Nauman of Western Dubuque at 1:51.76 and WACO’s Hayden Shelman qualified in long jump.
