
In an all-KCII area battle on the soccer pitch in Muscatine Thursday, it was the Columbus Wildcats that scored a 3-2 boys soccer win over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. The ‘Cats clawed their way to a 2-0 halftime lead. Mid-Prairie responded to tighten things in the second half, but Columbus found a way to get across the finish line with the one goal win. Mid-Prairie won shots on goal 9-5, Columbus took corners 5-0. Wildcat Sachiel Villagrana led the way with a hat trick against the Golden Hawk defense. Ryan Villa and Diego Villagrana each had an assist for Columbus. Leo Corona made seven saves for the ‘Cats to get the win in goal. Ashton Townsend and Kale Miller each scored for Mid-Prairie. Jacob Flynn had eight saves for the Hawks. Columbus improves to 2-2 with the win as the Golden Hawks fall to 0-4.
