
The Hillcrest Academy and WACO soccer teams will renew their Southeast Iowa Superconference rivalry on the pitch tonight in Kalona. Hillcrest is 1-1 on the season after a 4-0 win over Washington in Kalona Tuesday where Rowan Miller scored twice, Mason Helmuth and Mason Bender each added a goal, Jesse Blossom, Miller and Helmuth each had an assist and Kyle Neuschwander and Andrew Kauffman combined on a clean sheet in goal in the win. Hillcrest had lost their opener 1-0 to Burlington Notre Dame last week.
For WACO, they are 2-2 this year, with wins over Sigourney-Keota and Wapello and losses to Fairfield and Central Lee. The Warriors were beaten by the Hawks on the road 3-2 Tuesday. This season, WACO has 13 goals scored while giving up six with 38 shots on goal, 19 corners, eight assists and a 71% team save percentage. Individually, Tristan Luitjens is the leader with five goals and four assists. Nick West and Keiran Luijtens have three goals each. These teams have split their last two meetings with Hillcrest winning 4-0 last year. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. At Hillcrest Academy.
