
The Highland Huskies and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves again impressed Tuesday during the Nike Golf Invitational hosted by Burlington Notre Dame at Flint Hills Golf Course.
Highland won the girls’ team championship with a score of 382 strokes, 40 less than second-place Fort Madison, while the WMU boys were second to Central Lee and just 16 strokes shy of the Hawks with a score of 319.
Emersyn Schultz led the Huskies and was the overall meet medalist by shooting a 10-over-par 81, finishing with one birdie and 11 bogeys. Fellow junior Adisyn Prottsman was second overall with an 84 and also had a birdie against five bogeys, while senior Adeline Krotz finished seventh with a 102.
Justin Knipfer paced the Wolves by finishing with a second-place, five-over 76, only six strokes behind the winner Carter Jones from Central Lee. The sophomore had birdies on the sixth and 16th holes to go with five bogeys.
Konner Kinneberg was sixth overall with a 79 for Winfield-Mount Union and carded birdies on the 10th and 11th to pair with four bogeys, one double-bogey and one triple.
Fellow junior Nick Sparrow and sophomore Cody Milks finished tied for seventh by each firing an 82, while junior Max Edwards had an 88 and senior Sinjin Brown finished with 90.
The WMU girls got scores of 113 each from junior Kellee Milks and freshman Ashlyn Bender, while the Highland boys were led by a 118 from sophomore Isaac Giesmann. While the Huskies next play at home against Wapello, the Wolves also compete later today versus Columbus.
