A new season is about to begin for Washington Demon girls’ soccer. Washington couldn’t quite duplicate the program-record 11 wins they collected in 2023, starting last spring with three losses by one goal each and finishing with an overall record of 7-9, including a 4-6 mark in the Southeast Conference.
While there is a fair number of graduates to replace, one key returning piece is senior Angeline Anderson, who tied for the team high with eight goals scored and led the Demons with three assists.
Other starters like stalwart defender Ana Mata and goalkeeper Aleigha Medley are back to anchor the back line, while fellow junior Jocci Carter will be one of the players asked to take a bigger role in the attack.
Head coach Mason Quigley tells KCII Sports that Washington is starting to establish a consistent ability to retain and renew great talent on their roster.
“It’s always tough when you’re trying to build a program,” Quigley says, “but I think we’re starting to finally see the awesome perks of it, where kids are coming out and they’re buying in to the program and buying in to themselves and wanting to set a new standard for themselves each season.”
The Demons kick off their new season by hosting Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union tomorrow evening.
