The Sigourney Savages are set to tee off on a new season of golf. Sigourney brings back most of a boys’ team that was one of the best in the South Iowa Cedar League last year, including five players who had average nine-hole scores of 45 strokes or fewer.
Solon Yates led the Savages in scoring as a sophomore, going as low as an even-par 36 on a nine-hole course and a four-over 76 for 18 holes.
Sophomore Ike Molyneux, junior Josh Wyatt and seniors Isaac Bruns and Cain Weber also bring back cumulative adjusted averages of 47 or better for a team that won a sectional championship in 2024 and just missed out on moving to state with a fourth-place finish at districts.
The Sigourney girls will have back sophomore Adalynne Tremmel, who had the third-lowest scoring average on the team last season. Savages head coach Zach Tremmel tells KCII Sports that the potential for his roster, and their work ethic, is off the charts.
“For preseason, this is probably the most excited I’ve been for a golf team that we’ve had,” Tremmel says. “They’ve put in a ton of time [and] played all summer. They’re taking it serious, and I expect to have a great season.”
Sigourney girls’ golf competes for the first time this season next Monday at Keota, while the Savage boys hit the course for the first time against Belle Plaine on April 10th.
