Warmer temperatures have grasses greening and flowers beginning to pop up across Iowa. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued their weekly Woodland Wildflowers Report which runs through mid-May as people are encouraged to get outside this spring. In southern Iowa, a variety of flowers are emerging. In Jefferson County, snow trillium and sharp-lobed hepatica are blooming along trails, as well as Dutchman’s breeches and common blue violet. In Henry County, Virginia Bluebells are starting to bud on south facing slopes. Snow trillium can also be found at Geode State Park.

In central Iowa, snow trillium is blooming and people are finding yellow and purple crocus near woods on east facing flat ground in Sac County.

Not much activity is reported at this time in northern Iowa, except invasive garlic mustard and some silver maples are beginning to flower.
