Lone Tree picked up their 18th win in the last 19 games Tuesday with a victory over Holy Trinity Catholic in their regional quarterfinal by a final of 55-36 to give them 20 total wins on the season. Vivian Zaruba led the Lady Lions with 19 points and eight boards. This year, Lone Tree scores 58 per game and gives up 34, shooting 35% from the floor, 27% from deep and 56% at the stripe, with 36 rebounds, 12 assists, 16 steals, three blocks and 15 turnovers per game. Finley Jacque is the team’s leader with 16 points per game, while Rylee Shield does the most cleanup duty underneath with seven rebounds a night.

Sigourney Head Coach Kaylee Weber spoke with KCII Sports on the postgame show Tuesday after their home win against WACO in the regional quarterfinals to discuss the mentality of her team and the attitude needed to continue to move forward in the postseason. “We just have to keep playing together as a team,” Weber said. “My seniors don’t want to be done yet, I don’t want to be done yet, so we just have to keep going. Keep fighting, not giving up.”

Lone Tree Head Coach Ryan Shelman also talked with KCII Sports before the matchup with the Savages to give his keys to a regional semifinal victory. “They’re a really good rebounding team [Sigourney]. We’re very similar when you look down the stats. We’re almost identical,” Shelman said. “We’re going to have to do a lot to slow them down, but they also have to worry about us as well. Obviously, we’re the road team so we’re going to have to come out ready to play from the get-go.”

In the Varsity Bound era, Sigourney leads the series with Lone Tree 2-0 dating back 10 years ago. The latest matchup came in 2020, which the Savages snagged by a final of 46-33.
