The Washington Demon basketball teams are seeking to start the week with some home wins as they host Tipton tonight in a doubleheader you can hear on KCII.
The Washington girls are coming off a four-point loss to Fort Madison on Friday night that dropped them to 3-7, but their defense was outstanding, holding the Bloodhounds to just 32 points.
While the team looks to junior Adalyn Long and her 10 points scored per game to spark the offense, Demons head coach Shannon Rugg tells KCII Sports that his team’s ability to get stops gives them a chance to win every night.
“If we continue to practice like [we have] and get better and show up to the games,” Rugg says, “there’s nobody left on our schedule that we can’t beat. I like where we’re going.”
While the girls get set to take on a Tipton team that is 6-3, the Washington boys will facing a Tiger squad that is 4-4. A 19-point loss Friday to Fort Madison put a serious damper on the momentum the Demons had built going into the winter holiday break, ending their four-game winning streak and moving them down to 5-4.
Senior Logan McDole leads the scoring attack by averaging almost 12 points a game, but junior Drew Conrad and sophomore Nic Stone combined for just 10 points against the Bloodhounds after averaging 10 per contest each going in. Head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports that the defeat Friday can be a learning experience.
“I think sometimes it sticks a little bit better when there is a loss like this,” Stark says. “We need to make sure that we learn from it.”
You can catch both basketball battles this evening between Washington and Tipton on your home for Demon basketball, 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app, starting with the Countdown to Tip-Off at 5:30.
