The Wilton Beavers are unbeaten no more. The No. 12 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team took care of business on Senior Night Thursday in front of a packed house at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman, sweeping away the No. 15 Beavers in straight sets. The Hawks were winners by scores of 25-12, 25-23 and 25-17. Stat leaders included Dakota Mitchell with 26 digs and Jovi Evans with 14, Evans with 22 assists and Avery Helmuth with 11, Callie Huber with 10 kills and Harper Pacha with nine, Evans with four blocks and Brylee Gearhart with three, two aces for Jeorgia Evans and one apiece for Helmuth, Pacha and Katelyn Harland. Following the contest, the seven Golden Hawk seniors spoke with KCII sports about the ceremony and the win.

Lanee Duwa said, “They were undefeated, so we knew we had to come and get that win. The second set was the most important for us tonight.”

Dakota Mitchell continued, “Senior Night was just fun, getting to call all of our names out and have our hard work recognized over the last four seasons was fun. We came together in the match and we just pushed. We never gave up. No balls fell to the ground.”

Kyla Karnes continued, “It was kind of weird because the years go so fast!”

Brylee Gearhart said, “It feels like just yesterday it was our freshman year and we were watching our seniors walk out. We had a choice, and I feel like in past year’s we would have just fallen apart but our team chemistry this year is really holding us together.”

Callie Huber said, “It was very surreal because I don’t feel like a senior yet. We had a choice in the moment, to either come together or fall apart and we did a really good job of coming together and attacking.”

With the win, the Golden Hawks are now 2-1 in the River Valley Conference and 15-5 overall as Wilton dips to 2-1 in the RVC and 17-1 on the season. In a pregame celebration, the Golden Hawks honored seniors Kenzington Miller, Lanee Duwa, Brylee Gearhart, Dakota Mitchell, Lily Miller, Kyla Karnes and Callie Huber. Mid-Prairie’s next match is at Durant Tuesday.
