It’s tournament time in southeast Iowa, and the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team opens the Class 3A regionals Saturday hosting the Albia Lady Dees. The Hawks come into the contest as the three seed in Region five, with a 10-10 overall record and 7-5 conference mark, third in the River Valley South. The Hawks were a 36-32 winner over Tipton Monday in their performance before the playoffs, led by 10 points from Brooklyn Schneider. On the season, Mid-Prairie scores 51 points per game and gives up 50. They shoot 39% from the floor, 27% from three and 57% at the line with 35 rebounds, 12 assists, 12 steals and 22 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Callie Huber with 11 points and nine boards per night with Nora Pennington at four steals and three assists per game.

Albia is 7-11 this year, they finished 4-9, sixth place in the South Central Conference. They were also a winner in their last game, getting by Pleasantville on the first, 33-20. This year, the Lady Dees average 38 points per game and give up 46, shooting 26% from the floor, 18% from three and 59% at the line with 32 rebounds, seven assists, 12 steals and 17 turnovers per game. Lillian DeMoss leads the way with nine points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist per game. These teams last met in 2016 postseason, with the Hawks rolling to a 69-23 win on their way to the State Tournament.
