The Highland Huskies were winners in two of the three wrestling duals they took part in last night in Lone Tree. Despite a 51-21 defeat at the hands of Iowa City Regina, Highland was able to knock off the Lone Tree Lions 36-15 and defeated Louisa-Muscatine 40-36.
Gauge Richardson had a strong night for the Huskies by winning a pair of bouts via pin at 144 pounds, while fellow freshman Tyler Pierson won major decisions of 17-5 and 12-4 at 120. Sophomore Brock Thomann had a pin and a technical knockout at 126 lbs, while Highland also got pins to win from senior Jack Peiffer at 165 and juniors Landon Bell and Isaac Kleese at 113 and 165, respectively.
In addition to the Highland defeat in duals, Lone Tree fell 51-12 to Louisa-Muscatine and 70-10 to Regina. Freshman Brock Nebergall won an 8-1 decision and an 8-0 major decision at 113 lbs, while the Lions also saw junior Clemens Swaink at 138 and freshman Cole Walmsley at 106 win by pin. Lone Tree will next wrestle tomorrow at the Regina Invitational in Iowa City, while Highland heads to the Fort Madison Invitational starting tonight.
