Only eight teams remain in Iowa’s eight-man football playoffs, each with visions of playing in the UNI-Dome. For Winfield-Mt. Union, this dream can be realized with a win over Don Bosco Thursday night.

The 2023 campaign has already been one of great success for the Wolves, who bring a number-one ranking, district championship, and perfect 10-0 record to Gilbertville tonight. Behind the leadership of District 6 Coach of the Year, Scott McCarty, and nine all-district players, WMU has handled its business in the postseason. They advanced to the quarterfinals with a playoff-opening blowout of Belle Plaine and last week’s 34-6 win over Moravia. A win for the Wolves would mean a trip to the final four in Cedar Falls for the first time since 1999.

Standing in their way are the Dons of Don Bosco, who have earned their 12th appearance in the quarterfinals in the last 13 years. No stranger to this stage, the number-eight Dons enter tonight following a first-round drubbing of Edgewood-Colesburg, and come-from-behind victory over WACO last Friday.

The Wolves have revenge on their minds, as it was Don Bosco eliminating them in the first round of playoff action one year ago. You can hear the rematch tonight on FM 106.1 and the KCII app with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff between the Wolves and Dons, with a trip to state on the line, is at 7.
