The second biggest story in Hillcrest Academy athletics from the last school year puts freshman Owen Scott in the spotlight for his work in field events this spring for the Raven track team. Scott, in his first year with the program, participated in a wide range of events that included sprints up to the 400, high jump and long jump. His top performances in each event at area competitions included runner-up in long jump at Lone Tree, third in the high jump at Lone Tree and L-M, and third in the 400 at Lone Tree. At the state qualifier meet at Roth Field in Wayland, Scott soared to clinch his bid to the state meet. He placed fourth at WACO with a leap of 20’3.5″, leaving somewhat of an anxious wait on Friday as the final list of qualifiers was compiled.

Scott made the field at Drake Stadium, landing 16th of 24 qualifiers. Once in Des Moines, he finished 11th on the big stage, jumping 20′.75″.

Tomorrow, we wrap up our top 10 countdown at Hillcrest Academy with a trip to the golf course.
