Our fourth biggest story in Mid-Prairie sports from the last academic year takes us to the golf course where the Golden Hawk girls put together one of the best seasons in program history. The Hawks shot a 203 team average per nine holes in 2023, with a 383 average per 18, ninth best in Class 2A. Individually, Gabi Robertson paced the Hawks per nine with an average of 46, across 18 it was Kylie Reinier at 94.

Mid-Prairie hit their stride in the second half of the season. The Golden Hawks brought home their first River Valley Conference title in five years at Muscatine Municipal Golf Course in early May, posting a team score of 389, one stroke better than Dyersville Beckman Catholic. All six Hawks were named All-RVC, led by Elite All-Conference players Reinier and her team best 93 for a third place finish, and Elite team member Addison English with a 94. Robertson shot a 100 and Madi Davidson a 102 to make All-Conference teams and Alexa Huber with a 103 and Elliot Debler with a 108 were honorable mention.

Mid-Prairie opened the postseason at home in Kalona, rolling to a regional title with a front nine 176 and team total 374 for the day, both new school records. Four of the six Hawks to take the course finished in the top six and five in the top 10. Reinier was the individual team leader with a personal best 89, including a front-nine 41, to finish runner-up. Robertson went 92, Debler 96, with a front-nine PR of 43, English 97, Davidson 98 and Huber 103. At the Williamsburg regional final, all other teams were again looking up at the Hawks topping the leaderboard. Mid-Prairie reset the school record for the second straight meet, shooting an all-time mark of 367 across 18-holes to win the team title and clinch the state tournament bid by 10 shots. Three Hawks reached the top seven, led by Robertson as medalist runner-up with an 87 including a 40 on the front. Reinier shot 89, Davidson 92, Debler 99, English 102 and Huber 105. It was the first back-to-back trip to state for the program since 2009 and 2010.

At state in Marshalltown, Mid-Prairie shot 751 across the two day tournament to finish seventh in 2A, 379 on day one and 372 on day two. Top finish came from Reinier in 19th place with a 181. Davidson went 186, Robertson 193, English 194, Debler 198 and Huber 213.

Mid-Prairie also received accolades after the season. Huber and Reinier were named Academic All-State in Class 2A, Reinier and Robertson were named All-Region 4 players in Class 2A and head coach Tracy McArtor was named Region 4 Coach of the year. Mid-Prairie capped the season with a 41-12 overall record.

Our countdown continues Wednesday as the third biggest story in Mid-Prairie sports last year takes us to the wrestling mat.
