U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke to KCII News about The False Claims Act, “I passed it in 1986, it’s brought 72 billion dollars of fraudulently taken money back into the Federal Treasury. It brings in about three or four billion dollars every year. Every spring the justice department puts out a report about how much it has brought in. Recently we just had a nine to nothing Supreme Court decision that very much strengthened the False Claims Act.” In addition to allowing the United States to pursue perpetrators of fraud on its own, the False Claims Act allows private citizens to file suits on behalf of the government, called “qui tam” suits, against those who have defrauded the government
