The Columbus Wildcats made the most of their final home track & field meet Monday, with the boys winning the team title at the Wildcat Relays and the girls finishing fourth in team scoring. Columbus’ score of 113 points was 62 better than second-place Wilton, thanks to the boys producing eight individual winners and three winning relay teams.

Wildcat junior Kaden Amigon was a three-time gold medalist, winning the 100-meter dash in just over 11 seconds flat and the 200 meters in 22.73 while also posting the top long jump of 20 feet three inches. Fresh off top-1o finishes in both events at the Drake Relays, senior Triston Miller was a winner in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.26 seconds and the high jump, clearing six feet one inch.

Sophomore Cael Phillips won the 3,200 meters in 11 minutes 43 seconds, while junior Cole Storm took the title in the 800 in 2:19 and junior Russell Coil had the top discus toss of 136-and-a-half feet. Columbus also won the four-by-100-meter relay in 44.09 seconds, as well as the 4-by-400 in 3:56 and the shuttle hurdles in 1:04.

Wildcat senior Jeff Hoback was runner-up to Amigon in both the 100 and 200, as was Coil in the shot put; senior Tyler Humiston in the 400; junior Damian Vergara in the 1,600; and junior Josh Almanza in the 3,200. Freshman Alexander Rees was third in the 110 hurdles, while freshman Freddy Escobar was fourth in the 800.

Along with Rees taking fourth in the 400 hurdles and the Wildcats taking third in the 4-by-200, Columbus was also second in the 4-by-800, the sprint medley and the distance medley.

Freshman Naveiah Garza had the top performance for the Wildcat girls, winning the 400 in 1:08 and clearing 4’8″ for the top high jump. Columbus also won the girls’ 4-by-100 in 4:55 while finishing fourth in the sprint medley and third in both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200.

Freshman Audrey Hoback was a runner-up in the 100, as was classmate Isabel Rendon in the 800, while sophomore Claire Humphreys was fourth in the 200 for Columbus. The Wildcats next compete at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championships tomorrow in Wayland.
