At the August 10th Washington Community School Board meeting, the board approved a pair of contracts for online learning. One of the contracts was for Career Technical Education classes for middle school students, and the other was for online Spanish classes for Washington High School through Elevate K-12, a live streaming education service.

Washington Community Schools Superintendent Willie Stone says that these online classes came to be due to a teacher shortage. “We made calls to multiple colleges and other schools to try and find an in-person Spanish teacher, and we couldn’t find one. We wanted to make sure that we could offer Spanish classes to our students, so we are going through Elevate, who will provide the students with the virtual class.”

The first day of school is August 23rd; for more information about the other changes made for the upcoming school year, you can find articles online at KCIIradio.com.
