Postseason girls soccer awards have been pouring in from the Southeast Conference and Iowa Girls Coaches Association with Greta Rothe stealing the show for Washington.
The four year starter racked up the accolades being named Co-Southeast Conference player of the year, first team all southeast district, and second team all state in class 1A. The senior had the fourth most goals in the league with 23 and had a couple of assists. She made three penalty kicks on the year and had a 53.5% shots on goal percentage. Rothe headlined five players being named all conference with other first team selections being Giselle Marcelino and Lindsay Diaz. Marcelino was also a second team all southeast district selection and the sophomore led the team with 25 goals including putting 57 shots on goal. Diaz anchored a defense that gave up just 2.1 goals a game.
Honorable mention selections included seniors Elyse Hunt and Ava Turner. Hunt led the league in saves with 213 and had an 85.2% save percentage. Turner helped out the defense and scored four times with a pair of assists at the other end. Seven Demons were named academic all conference including Rothe, Turner, Diaz, Molly Klinzman, Alex Murphy, Ellie Anderson, and Emma Stalder.
Washington finished the spring 10-7 overall and third in the SEC with a 5-5 league mark.
