KCII was awarded for news coverage in 2021 at the annual Iowa Broadcast News Association convention Saturday.

News Director Sam McIntosh received third place in both the In-Depth Series and Farm and Agribusiness categories for coverage on the murder of Fairfield teacher Nohema Graber and a Washington County 4-H feature interview with the Statler family. This year’s IBNA convention was held in Cedar Falls, which included workshops and forums that featured topics such as radio and television news writing, a temperature check on the broadcasting industry from various news directors, and forums with Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and State Senator Liz Mathis who are both running for the newly drawn second Congressional district. Both politicians started their career in TV journalism, as well as Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell, who served as keynote speaker at the awards banquet.
