Thursday night Columbus Community and Hillcrest Academy traveled to Letts for the annual Falcon Relays. The Wildcat boys out-shined everyone, winning the team title with an impressive 185.5 points. Van Buren was second with 119. The Columbus boys had a lot of hardware to take home with them, winning 10 event championships. Individual event titles included Freddy Vergara in the two-mile in 10:35.11. Kaden Amigon won the 100 in 11.49 seconds, the 200 in 23.40 seconds and the 400 in 53.14 seconds. Isaac Acosta won the 800 in 2:10.35 and the mile in 4:54.96. Relay championships included the 4×800 team in 9:07.83, the distance medley team of Dyson Juhl, Jon Miranda, Juan Chairez and Acosta in 3:56.22. The 4×100 team of Chairez, Juhl, Miranda and Jeff Hoback won in 47.39 seconds and the 4×400 team of Damien Vergara, Tyler Humiston, Freddy Vergara and Acosta won in 3:45.97. Other key Columbus performances included runner-up for Amigon in the long jump, Damien Vergara in the 800, Freddy Vergara in the 1600 and the 4×200 team of Juhl, Miranda, Nahum Cabrera and Juan Chairez. Tim Hills-Carrier was third in the high jump, Bryce Grimm was third in the discus, Jeff Hoback was third in the 400 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle team of Cabrera, Daniel Martinez, Miranda and Dante Zuniga was third.

The Columbus girls were fifth with 65 points, Louisa-Muscatine won their home meet with 145 points. Lily Coil went double gold, winning the 100 and 400 hurdles in times of 18.19 seconds and 1:16.61 respectively. Other top Columbus performances included runner-up for Coil in the long jump, second for Libby White in the discus, second for Ariana Vergara in the 3000 and second for the 4×200 team of Claire Humphreys, Frannie Sosa, Quinn Yotter and Madeline Howell.

The Hillcrest girls were sixth with 58.50 points, their highest point total at a meet in six years. The Ravens had three championship events with Leah Bontrager beating the field in the 1500 in 5:39.90. Delaney Shaw clearing 15’3” to win the long jump and the Raven distance medley of Malia Yoder, Morgan Nafziger, Delaney Shaw and Bontrager also brought home gold in 4:50.59. Other top Raven performers included Yoder second in the high jump, Nafziger second in the 100, and Bontrager second in the 800. Quang Hunyh competed for the Hillcrest boys in the 100, 200 and 400 events.
