A Cedar Rapids woman was recently convicted for a May 2021 incident in Washington County.

Through a plea agreement, 22-year-old Xezna Beard was convicted of a lesser charge of third-degree burglary and driving while barred, both aggravated misdemeanors. Beard was given a two-year suspended prison sentence to be placed on two years of probation, and an $855 fine was suspended. Court documents show on May 27th, 2021 Beard and 40-year-old Matthew Albright of Cedar Rapids drove to a residence in the 1100 block of Tulip Avenue in Riverside. Beard used what appeared to be a lock set to pick the front door lock. She later came out of the residence with unknown items while Albright used a screwdriver to attempt to steal items from a car. A tow operator then arrived at the residence to pick up the car and said that Beard and Albright left the scene in an RV belonging to the property owner. In September of 2021, the Washington County Communications Center was informed by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office that Beard had been located. She was arrested on charges of  third-degree burglary, a class D felony, driving while barred and possession of burglary tools, both aggravated misdemeanors and fifth-degree theft and trespassing, both simple misdemeanors. Court documents show that judgment has not been entered for the possession of burglary tools charge and the theft charged was dismissed by the court.
