A Winfield teenager was given a deferred judgment for a felony drug charge in Henry County.

Court documents show that 19-year-old Matthew Puumala was given a deferred judgment for delivery of less than 10 grams of LSD, a class B felony. Puumala is ordered to serve a five-year probation term and pay a civil penalty of $5,000, court costs and all applicable surcharges. The criminal complaint states that the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol conducted an investigation into an incident in Salem on September 6, 2021. Officers learned that three juveniles had consumed “ACID” or LSD with one resulting in a vehicle crash. A search warrant was carried out in the 400 block of North Golfview Place in Winfield on September 10th. Approximately 44 tabs of LSD were found in Puumala’s bedroom along with two clear plastic baggies containing approximately 38 grams of marijuana, two digital scales and numerous unused packaging materials. Puumala admitted to selling marijuana and LSD to a juvenile and that he used Snapchat to set up the delivery. He was arrested and charged with delivery of LSD and possession with intent to deliver LSD, both class B felonies, and failure to affix drug tax stamp and possession with intent to deliver marijuana, both class D felonies. Judgment was not entered for the remaining charges.
