A North Liberty man was arrested on a traffic stop northwest of Ainsworth Monday.
Court documents show at about 10:28 p.m. a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy was being followed closely by a Dodge Ramp pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Scott Eugene Pitts on 220th Street, or County Road G36, near Tulip Avenue. The deputy pulled off the road to let Pitts pass and then followed his truck. Pitts was observed to be repeatedly crossing the fog line, and a traffic stop was then initiated. The deputy observed Pitts to have bloodshot eyes with an odor of alcohol. Pitts consented to field sobriety tests which he failed. He then consented to a preliminary breath test which read .08% blood alcohol content level. Pitts also presented the deputy with a barred drivers license, and he was taken into custody and transported to the county jail.
Pitts is charged with operating while under the influence, third offense, a class D felony, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor. Charges are pending lab results for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
