The annual KCII Caring Christmas Food Drive returns this week, with a new feature to spotlight the area pantries we donate toward and the businesses who participate to help those who are food insecure.

KCII is airing its first-ever Day of Giving Radiothon live on air from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. tomorrow. Similar to the twice-annual home shopping extravaganza, KCII staff will be taking to the airwaves to seek monetary donations for any of the 10 pantries we support. The broadcast will include interviews with each of the pantries’ organizers and with the businesses and organizations that help support the drive. KCII General Manager Joe Nichols invites listeners to tune into this inaugural event, “It’s going to be interesting, I don’t know exactly what to tell you how it’s going to sound on the air because we have not done it before. What I can tell you is that we have a main goal and that’s to have pledges for donations and be able to get money to those who are in need and let them use it to the best that their individual place is currently needing.”

Nichols emphasizes that monetary donations make all the difference since pantries can have greater purchasing power for goods than the typical shopper. Donations can be made online by visiting the Caring Christmas page, or by spotting QR code table toppers or the Big Red Radio at participating sponsors throughout the holiday season. You can hear more about the Day of Giving Radiothon which will also have a second broadcast this December, and more about this year’s food drive during a Halcyon House Washington Page on air and at kciiradio.com.
