Golden Hawk Will Cavanagh is having one of the best seasons under center in Mid-Prairie history. While the senior signal caller, may only have one year as the starter, he is making the most of it, putting his name in the Golden Hawk record books.

As of Mid-Prairie’s first round playoff win Friday over Northeast Goose Lake, Cavanagh is 77 of 122 through the air for 994 yards and 13 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He has also rushed for 290 yards and four more scores on 75 carries. His 63% completion percentage is third in class 2A at this point in the season. His 13 touchdowns are eighth most in 2A, his three interceptions are second fewest in the state. Those 13 touchdown passes this season are fourth most in Mid-Prairie history for a single year, tying him with Seth Fisher’s 1999 and 2000 seasons, Justin Swartzendruber’s 2002 season and Ryan Gent’s 2008. His 77 completions are eighth most in a single year, placing him just ahead of Gent’s 2008 and behind Rob Rich in 1994. His 994 yards so far this year put him just outside the top 10 in 11th.

Couple those numbers in 2021 with limited time that he saw in 2020, Cavanagh is 81 of 127 for his career for 1,059 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has accounted for 18 total touchdowns in his time at Mid-Prairie. His 14 touchdown throws are tied for eighth in a Golden Hawk career with Karson Gingerich, his 1,059 yards are 14th most and his 81 completions are 15th most. Cavanagh will have at least one more chance to add to those numbers when the Golden Hawks take the field Friday at No. 3 West Marshall in the second round of the class 2A playoffs.
