dzamal-3

A Washington County Sheriff’s Office K9 is now sporting a new body armor vest.

Dzamal will now be protected from bullet and stab wounds thanks to a donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s. The armor is custom fitted to Dzamal and is certified by the National Institute of Justice. The value of the vest ranges from $1,700 to $2,300, weighs an average of 4-5 pounds, and comes with a five-year warranty. The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9 handler Deputy Nolan Burke applied for the donation earlier this year and has been working with Dzamal since the beginning of this year. The Washington County K9 units are made possible with community donations and a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant of $10,000 they received in January.
