Two ranked teams and a long-standing rivalry. Nothing else is needed to make week two’s matchup in Sigourney between the SK Cobras and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks explosive.

The No. 9 ranked Cobras come into tonight’s game with a 1-0 record after a 23-20 win on the road at No. 7 Durant. Sigourney-Keota scored the final 10 points last Friday against the Wildcats to get the victory as the visitors. The Snakes put up 267 total yards while holding the Wildcats to 197 including 144 for last year’s leading 1A rusher Nolan DeLong. SK got 187 yards on 32 carries from Cade Molyneux along with a 40 yard touchdown pass from him to Levi Crawford. The SK defense forced an interception and recovered a pair of fumbles in the win. This week, Cobra head coach Jared Jensen talked about the opener against the Wildcats and getting prepared for Mid-Prairie.

No. 15 Mid-Prairie opened 2021 with a 55-13 drubbing of West Burlington Notre Dame at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. The Hawks enacted a running clock in the first half and scored the first 48 of the game in total. Will Cavanagh led the Mid-Prairie aerial attack going 10 of 11 for 183 yards with one touchdown pass each to Cain Brown, Jack Pennington and Grady Gingerich. On the ground, Tyler Helmuth had 106 yards on 11 carries with a pair of scores. Braden Hartley had two rushing touchdowns and Cavanagh one. Justice Jones recovered a fumble and led Mid-Prairie with four and a half tackles. The Golden Hawk defense had nine tackles for loss in the game and gave up just 147 yards, 11 through the air. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his team’s win over the Falcons and what Sigourney-Keota brings to the table.
