sigourney-3

The opportunity to get back to state is today for the Sigourney softball team when they host South Iowa Cedar League opponent Belle Plaine in a class 1A regional final.

Pitching and defense has carried the Savages so far in the postseason after back-to-back 1-0 victories over English Valley and North Mahaska. Carly Goodwin threw 10 scoreless innings on Friday giving up just four hits and Courtney Hemsley walked-it-off in the bottom of the 10th with a sacrifice fly.

The Plainsmen are 17-17 and they upset #10 Lynnville-Sully in the semis by a 2-1 final score. They have also defeated Baxter 12-2 and Grand View Christian 4-2 in these playoffs. Olivia Bohlen is their top hitter with a .407 average and Breanna Cook has a 1.90 ERA in 136 innings. The Savages swept two regular season meetings between these programs with a 4-0 win on June 4th and 10-0 victory on June 30th.

The Savages will try to get back to Fort Dodge for the first time since 2017. All of the action will begin at 7 p.m. in Sigourney and listen to the live play-by-play on FM 106.1 KCII, kciiradio.com, or the free KCII Mobile App.
