A Crawfordsville man was recently sentenced for a July 23, 2019 incident.

Court documents show that through a plea agreement 35-year-old Joshua Alexander McBride was found guilty of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, and a class D felony charge of forgery was dismissed. A two-year prison sentence was suspended for McBride to serve two years probation. He must pay $883.24 in pecuniary damages and an $855 fine with a 15% surcharge, as well as category B restitution. McBride was arrested by the Washington Police Department in September of 2019 following an investigation of a fraudulent check that was cashed at the U.S. Bank in Washington. McBride had approached a victim asking her to assist him in cashing a payroll check because he had lost his identification. McBride signed the check over to the victim who deposited it directly into her account and then withdrew the money and gave it to McBride. The check was returned to the bank and determined to be fraudulent.
