The opener was tight early, with Mid-Prairie scoring once in the second and fourth innings to lead 2-0, but the Hawks would open things up with five in the fifth, one in the sixth and a pair in the seventh to finish the win. Golden Hawk Aidan Rath took the start on the mound, firing his first career no-hitter and striking out 13. The Mid-Prairie offense ended with 14 hits. Rath and Keegan Gingerich had three hits and one RBI each with Rath hitting a solo home run to retake the solo state lead with nine homers. Alex Bean drove in two at the plate. In the nightcap Mid-Prairie finished a wire-to-wire win 14-3 in five innings. The Hawks scored in every inning but the fifth, putting up two in the first, six in the second and three each in the third and fourth frames. Wilton got one in the second and two runs in the fifth. Karson Grout recorded the complete game on the hill for Mid-Prairie, going all five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out seven. At the plate, Vinny Bowlin was three for four with six RBI on a homer and two doubles. Grout had three hits and drove in three, Gingerich knocked in two. Mid-Prairie head coach Kyle Mullet talked after the game about his team’s night. “We were able to pound the strike zone. Locate the fastball and throw the off-speed for strikes. When we are able to put that together with our offense and take care of things defensively, we are going to put up runs and put good baseball teams away. We are going to be a tough team to beat when we can do all three. That’s what it takes to win ballgames, go deep in the tournament and bring home titles.”
Mid-Prairie is now 13-4 on the year and hosts Muscatine tonight.
