The City of Washington will soon be searching for a new city administrator.

The Mason City City Council approved hiring Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson as a deputy city administrator/finance director during a special meeting Tuesday, Hinson tells KCII. His starting salary will be $131,186 annually with a start date of August 9th. Hinson has served as Washington’s city administrator since 2011. Prior to that he was the city administrator for six years for the City of Garner, located 21 miles west of Mason City. Hinson looks forward to living closer to family, and he feels confident that with many other people he has helped to vastly improve the Washington community in the last decade, “It’s a good appropriate point, you know we got just in the last year we got two big heavy lift, long-term projects done with the Wellness Park that had been kind of a community dream since 2007, so well before I came to town and we helped get that accomplished this last year. And then the city hall, police and fire which took us eight years from conceptualization to completion but we got that done this last October.”

Through his business Hinson Consulting, LLC. he assisted Mason City in hiring their City Administrator Aaron Burnett, and he will be filling the position left by Kevin Jacobson who unexpectedly passed away last May. Hinson has submitted his resignation to the City of Washington, and their next regular council meeting is scheduled for June 15th.
