It was a wild Southeast Iowa Superconference baseball contest in Wapello Monday between visiting Hillcrest Academy and the Indians. The Ravens scored a 24-9 win in four innings. Things were all Wapello early, after Hillcrest didn’t score in their first two at bats, the Indians built a 6-0 lead with one run in the first and a five run, 10 batter second inning. At that point, Hillcrest exploded. In the third, the Ravens sent 17 hitters to the plate, scoring 13 runs to completely dig out of the hole and build their own seven run lead. Hillcrest did it with seven hits, five walks and a hit batter. Every Ravens in the lineup scored a run during the rally, with Eli Ours, London Schrock, Luke Schrock, Jace Rempel and Grant Bender all collecting RBI. Wapello answered the bell in their next at bat, scoring three in a seven hitter frame. The Hillcrest bats stayed hot their next time up in the fourth. The Ravens sent 15 hitters to the plate, scoring 11 times on seven hits, four walks and a hit batter with RBI from Noah Miller, Ours, London Schrock, Luke Schrock, and Rempel. After the game head coach Danny Hershberger talked about the red hot Raven offense. “I think beating Pekin last Friday gave us a lot of confidence that we brought into this week. Guys are being patient, having good at bats and hitting the ball hard. Hitting is contagious and everyone wants a piece. I have not seen anything like this since I have been coaching. I was getting a little tired standing at third base but I love being out there during that.”

The two teams combined for 33 runs and 21 hits. There were 15 walks issued and three hit batters. Every Raven scored at least one run, six recorded multiple hits and six different Ravens had an RBI. Ours was two for three with four driven in and three runs scored. London Schrock was three for five with three runs scored and driven in, Miller had two hits, three RBI and scored four times while Rempel pounded out three hits, drove in three and scored twice. Liam Schrock got the win in relief for Hillcrest working two innings. The win is the second in a row for the Ravens who now stand at 2-3 as they get ready to host Winfield-Mt. Union on Tuesday.
