The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team saw a lead disappear late in an 11-10 opening week loss to the Keokuk Chiefs on the road. Mid-Prairie put up a four spot in the second inning to jump out to an early lead. Keokuk scored once in the bottom half. Mid-Prairie added a single run in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 5-1 before the Chiefs cut it to 5-3 with two in the home half. The Hawks added a five-spot in the sixth inning to take a commanding 10-3 advantage but were unable to close the door as Keokuk scored twice in the sixth and five times in their last at bat to force extras before winning it with a single tally in the ninth. Dakota Mitchell and Hannah Sellers led Mid-Prairie with three hits each, Mitchell drove in three. Myah Lugar took the loss in the circle going the distance giving up 22 hits, 11 earned runs and striking out four. With the loss, the Hawks are 0-3 and entertain Mount Vernon Monday.
