Most or nearly all of Iowa’s expected corn and soybean crop is planted, according to the latest Crop Progress and Condition Report from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Most of the state received some precipitation last week, with 4.8 suitable days for field work. Corn planting is 94% complete, almost two weeks ahead of the five year average, and 83% of soybeans are planted, 18 days ahead of the five year average. Farmers in southeast Iowa have about one-third of their soybean crop left to plant. Corn emergence jumped 30 percentage points to 52% last week, four days ahead of normal, and 24% of the soybean crop has emerged, one week ahead of normal. Much of Iowa continues to need additional precipitation, and normal temperatures would aid crop development, as unseasonably cool temperatures persisted across the state according to State Climatologist Justin Glisan.
