Yard Waste Center hours of service were discussed during the most recent Washington City Council meeting.

Council Member Steven Gault requested that the council review procedures and hours for the center located at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, “If you work any place you don’t get a chance to go out there because it’s closed. Saturdays 7 to 10 is a joke, it needs to be at least 7 to 2, and Thursdays and Fridays it needs to be open until 6 in the evening in the summer. I’m not saying in the winter. That gives people at work that time to get out there and get things done.”

The current hours for the yard waste center are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7-10 a.m. on six Saturdays each in the spring and fall. Waste Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Jason Whisler mentioned that the timing of the Saturday hours has revolved around other tasks that his staff must do at that same time, and that they typically see up to a dozen customers each Saturday. City Administrator Brent Hinson mentioned in council notes that this issue has likely not been looked at in the past decade, and he recommended that the city staff take a closer look at possible changes of hours.
